Volo's mission is to create the opportunity for a fulfilled life through genuine communities and access to activity. We strive to live out our mission through the Volo Kids Foundation. Originally founded in 2015 as a response to civil unrest in Baltimore, The Volo Kids Foundation was created to use sport as a tool for healing and a means of uniting communities. To execute our vision, we partnered with City Council members, community organizers, and recreation centers to launch the first Volo Kids Foundation program at Herring Run Recreation Center. Volo Kids has since expanded to eight cities across the country and is still growing! The unique relationship between Volo and The Volo Kids Foundation creates a synergistic effect. As more players sign up to play in our adult programs, we can fund more youth programs. The historical building that now houses Wiley Gunter’s was originally built in 1919, around the same time all the rowhouses in the neighborhood were being built. Originally two rowhomes, it was eventually expanded to the size we are today. It’s been host to many establishments over the years — starting with Byrne’s in the 1940s and changing many times to The Cellblock, Empty Pockets, SkyBox Bar and Grill, The Sly Fox Pub… and it’s been our home since 2012.
