Caskwhisper Farms/Mystique Barrel, Brewing and Lager House

Stephen Marsh has been a professional brewer in the craft beer industry for over 20 years with more than 40 years hombrew experience. As a cellarman he started the cask beer program at Heavy Seas, utilizing local ingredients, working with chefs up and down the east coast to create awesome food and beer events. He was involved in all aspects of production, and selling the quality product offered by Marylands first prodution brewery . He designed the spice recipe for Great Pumkin and was involved in the R&D for Plank and many of their barrel aged projects. A cask of Loose Cannon with hops from his own garden won 2nd place at the Great British Beer festival. He later became a partner at Liam Flynns, where he built their food program and local draft beer/ cask program from the ground up. His knowledge and hard work allowed the business to get its own liquor license.
He was an assistant brewer with the first farmhouse brewery Milkhouse Brewery at Stillpoint farn, utilizing locally sourced ingredients. including but not limited to local hops, locally malted grains and hand picked fruits from many of your favorite MD farms.

In 2018, he and his business partners opened Checkerspot Brewing where he was a brewer, cellarman, R&D, production, taproom manager (during covid) sales and distribution and started and managed the kitchen operations. He has also been an instrumental partner and cheerleader for Charm City Meadworks. Steve has worked with and collaborated with many many local breweries to establish sour and cask ale programs designing recipes around these ingredients. An avid gardener, he has become the “go to” person for sourcing local fruits (pawpaws) , hops, grains and homegrown fruits and dried spices utilizing these ingredient and designing recipes, collaborating with many local production breweries .
